History of the Sligo Recreation Center

The Sligo Recreation Center is located in what once was the Union School District school building. Built in 1928, the original owner of the building was the Sligo Borough School District. In February 1953, the Sligo Borough School District became a part of the school jointure designated as Union Joint School District. The building was Union Joint School District until 1963 when it became Union School District. In June 1969, the title for the building was transferred to the Borough of Sligo and the building became known as the Sligo Recreation Center.
Since being repurposed as a community center in 1969, the building has undergone major repairs such as a new roof, chimney, and main floor restrooms. All repairs made were to improve the building and make it better suitable for community use.
